How To Use Worm Castings & Worm Tea

Worm Castings

Planting

Before planting seeds or seedlings - evenly spread 1 gallon of castings per 30 sq. ft. of garden area.

Work the castings 2” deep into the garden soil and then thoroughly saturate with water to flush the microorganisms and minerals into the garden soil.

Transplanting Seedlings / Potted Plants

Dig a hole 3 times the size of a potted plant or seedling. Put one large handful of worm castings into the hole. You want to have about 1 inch of castings in the hole.

Fill the remainder of the hole with garden soil that has been mixed with worm castings and water thoroughly.

Mid-Season

In July (northeast U.S.) work more worm castings into the soil around each plant and water thoroughly.

Potting Soil

You can make a potting mix by mixing 3 to 4 parts potting soil to 1 part worm castings.  For seedlings use a seedling mix or sift the potting soil to remove large particles first.

House Plants

Work about 1 inch of castings into the top of the soil in the pot.  Water thoroughly.  Be cautious using castings in plants that require acidic soil or a lot of drainage.

Worm Tea

Always Dilute your worm tea

  1. General Use - Dilute 10 parts water to 1 part tea
  2. Seedlings or sensitive plants - Dilute 20 parts water to 1 part tea
  3. Established Plants or Heavy Eaters - 5 parts water to 1 part tea

Watering Can - Helps amend soil and longer lasting benefits

  1. Water your plants before using worm tea.  You don’t want to saturate the ground, but make sure it is damp enough to absorb the tea.
  2. Thoroughly water with the diluted tea mixture.
  3. Reapply every 2-4 weeks.

Foliar Spray - Fast acting for a quick boost

  1. After diluting your tea, strain it through an old t-shirt or cheesecloth into your sprayer to ensure your sprayer doesn’t get clogged.
  2. First thing in the morning or late evening spray your plants making sure to spray both the top and the bottom of the leaves.
  3. Reapply every 2-4 weeks.

**Make sure to use Worm Tea within 24 hours of purchase**

How To Store

Storing Castings

Store in a cool area, away from sunlight, where the castings won’t freeze.  Make sure to crack the lid on the container so the castings can breathe.  Check occasionally and spritz with water if the top drys out.  Stored castings will last for months if maintained properly.

Storing Worm Tea
Will not store.  Please use within 24 hours of purchase.

Our Story

Hi there! We’re Worm Crafted Gardens, a veteran-owned, family-operated business proudly rooted in Morgan County, Indiana.

Where It All Began

Our founder, Chris Mosier, developed a love for growing food at a young age. Gardening alongside his parents, caring for animals, and learning how generations before us lived from the land inspired a lifelong passion for healthy soil and sustainable growing.

From Backyard Garden to Worm Farm

What began as a few backyard containers has grown into a quarter-acre filled with fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers grown using natural and organic practices.  Along the way, Chris discovered the incredible impact earthworms have on healthy soil and Worm Crafted Gardens was born.

Why We Do What We Do

For our family, gardening is about more than growing vegetables. It’s about knowing our children can walk into the garden, pick a ripe tomato or pepper, and eat it straight from the vine with confidence in the soil it was grown in. That peace of mind is something we hope to share with every gardener we meet.

Our Mission

We’re passionate about helping gardeners, farmers, and landscapers build healthier soil naturally. Whether you’re growing one houseplant or several acres, we’re here to provide premium worm castings, practical education, and honest advice to help your plants thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at wormcraftedgardens@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No!  Worm castings are a gentle, PH neutral product that will not burn your plants.

If stored properly, castings can last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year.  The biology inside of worm castings does decrease the longer they are stored, so recommendation is always to use as soon as possible.

Try to store in a cool and shaded or dark location.  You do not want them to dry out.  If you notice that they are starting to get dry, spritz them with a little water and give them a fluff.

For outdoor gardening, recommendation would be before planting, mid season when things are starting to take off fruiting and flowering, and then end of season when putting your beds to rest.

For container plants, recommendation is every 2-3 months to keep the beneficial bacteria cycle going.

No.  These are a soil amendment and meant to be added into your compost or soil mix.  Best mix is typically when you use 20% worm castings in whatever growing medium you have.

Worm tea is typically applied every 2-4 weeks.  Remember that all plants have different needs.  Heavy feeders grow better with more frequent watering, while your more sensitive plants will do better with waiting longer in between waterings.

Absolutely!  Worm tea is a great alternative if you can’t or don‘t want to use worm castings.
